Regional brief · not a ranking of fishing marks
Florida Keys: flats and offshore are different trips
The Florida Keys combine shallow flats, mangrove edges, reefs and deeper water. Selecting Key West is only the first step: choose the habitat and method before looking for a time window. Tourism information helps describe the options; sanctuary maps and fishing authorities determine the rules.
If you choose the shore
For shore fishing, identify a permitted access point first. A bridge, marina or attractive flat is not automatically open to anglers. Exposure and shoreline direction matter more than copying a time from another island.
If you choose a boat
For a boat trip, distinguish protected-water fishing from a route beyond the reef. Ask the operator about the route, return conditions and protected zones, rather than only the target fish.
Start with a city reference
Planner times describe the sun and moon in the city’s local time zone. They do not predict fish activity or provide a local wave or tide forecast for this destination. Use them to organise the day, then consult a marine forecast for your specific location.
Before selecting a departure
- Identify the actual location and method: shore or boat.
- Check current access, permissions and restrictions; a directory listing is not permission.
- Review wind and waves for the return, not only departure.
Sources for further checks
Sources describe regions and activities; they do not verify individual fishing marks here or guarantee a season or catch. Recheck changing details when planning.
